I have used Al's 2x72 grinder for over five years and it works great. Nothing has worn out on it and the only mod I have done to it is put a hardened O1 plate on the platen. It uses a Baldor DC speed control, A Leeson motor and Bader wheels. When I bought it the price was about $300 less then a KMG.

Go for the 3hp! I have a 2hp Bader BIII and while it hogs metal quite well, I can still bog the motor down. My buddy has a 3hp motor and it is more difficult to bog down. He bought his off ebay and the price wasn't that much more than a 1.5hp or a 2hp.

All that "my way" equated to was having a platen with a 1 1/2" contact wheel at the top, and a 3" at the bottom. I had my heart set on a BIII. I called Bader, told them I was ready to purchase a grinder, and what I wanted, along with a statement saying that I realized I would have to pay extra for my "add ons".

Either way, I knew it was time to upgrade. Unfortunately, the TW 90 base model is REALLY expensive. None of the decent belt grinders are cheap, but dang. I've been doing a lot of research and after spending time with the guys I competed against and found that the Bader BIII is about the best, all around grinder that will work for me.
