At CAMS, we have the technology to grind camshafts with inclined cam lobes thanks to our CNC grinding machine that can set movement of the complete grinding wheel assembly at the same angle as the lifter movement. This is required for engines with valves pointing towards the center of the combustion chamber. A top notch example is the ...

Big-Inch LS Engine Camshaft Guide. June 7, 2017 by LS Engine DiY. The cylinder heads might be the most important part of an engine in terms of producing horsepower, but unless something opens up the valves, the heads will flow no air at all. And zero airflow equals zero horsepower. The responsibility of opening and closing the valves at precise ...
This is my final assignment in the last year in my college. It's all about the simulation of the machine and how it work. This machine is manually operated, ...
Mopar Engine Performance Guide: Camshaft, Lifters and Cam Drive. May 1, 2017 by Mopar DiY. Selecting a camshaft is one of the most important decisions you make when building a max-performance engine because the cam controls crucial timing events. And those events need to occur at the proper time in the engine's cycle and in conjunction with ...

Now replace the camshaft with the original cam for your intake valve so it just starts to open the valve. If it doesn't drop in you may have to grind a little off the cam. The intake should close one thirde to halfway down. The best way to grind the cams is to hold the ends of the shaft and rotate it into the grinding wheel.
This cam will idle like a stock cam, but the added duration and timing alterations will allow it to easily outperform even a Kohler 18 H.P. cam which has considerable less duration @ .050 tappet lift. V338-245/338-238-3 Stock Class Camshaft Grind-Perfect for 3600-4500 rpm stock classes. (10, 12, 14, 16hp engines)
Regrinding a Cam Process Cams can be modified by removing material from the "base circle", which is the circumference on which the tappet rides when the valve is closed [note: this is not the camshaft bearing journal diameter]. The amount removed varies with the lobe condition and manufacturer's practice, typically .030" to .060". Improvements

The Sherline cam grinder was designed with the home shop machinist in mind. We have assumed that the user has some knowledge of g-code, CNC, and how to square up or "tram in" a machine, so all axes are properly aligned. The machine is carefully pre-aligned at the factory, but rough handling in shipping could knock something out of alignment

Member. from San Mateo, Ca. As I understand it, that's pretty much how regrind cams get reground. Grind down the base and the lift from base becomes greater. Can't remove material from the lobe peak and gain lift. Comes out nicer on a cam grinder then it will on the Craftsman bench grinder. RichFox, Jan 28, 2008.
That means we grind them down 0.200" and expect the engine to make 500 hp and live! In order to build a low deck 470 Chrysler, the mains on the 440" shaft are turned down 0.125" so the crank will fit a 400 block and the rods are offset ground down to 2.200" instead of the original 2.375".
Plate cam or disk cam: The follower moves in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the camshaft. A translating or a swing arm follower must be constrained to maintain contact with the cam profile. Grooved cam or closed cam : This is a plate cam with the follower riding in a groove in the face of the cam. Figure 6-4 Grooved cam
DIY Ford. Do It Yourself Ford Projects. Small-Block Ford Build: Choosing Camshafts ... When a crank or cam is polished on one of these machines, it uses about one inch of tape per journal, so fresh abrasive is used for every polishing job, but because it's such a small amount, many users say they've saved money. "One PER reported a 50-75 percent savings in the cost of tape vs. belts," Barton says.
DIY CNC Camgrinder. The path to success in modern cam design is to write a software that models the shape of the acceleration curve first. Then integrate to get a velocity and lift curve. Then write a solver to adjust the dimensions of the acceleration curve until velocity and lift = 0.0 at the end. Then optimise to get the dimensions you desire.
Cam Grinder Version: The Cam Grinder version is new for v4.3, and adds several features beyond what the Plus version does. It's features are specially designed for customers who typically grind cams or need to send files to cam grinders for special custom grinds. Hi folks, After a disappointing search for hotter cams than wldr's here in Europe, I decided to build an own cam grinding machine. And finally, just two short years later I finished 2 cam sets (one 294°set for my street stroker and a asymetric 312°set for a 45 racer, both 10mm/0,393in lift) with the cut off - press on - adjust - and weld on method.
