Nystrom believes it was a hard decision for Freeport-McMoRan at the corporate level as well. During the Friday call, Nystrom learned that the Norwich facility was the most efficient among the company's copper rod mills. However, the reasoning to close the Norwich facility is due to a general downturn in the copper industry, going back to 2008.
